Our well-established site of 78 years has lots of tall trees creating plenty of shade.
Keeping Cool
With the hot weather we are all experiencing, we want to reassure all our clients that when your pet boards with us during weather extremities, we have policies in place to ensure they are happy and comfortable.
Whilst there are no air conditioning units in the animal accommodation, we have plenty of tall trees so there is lots of shade. In addition, all the accommodation is designed to allow for ventilation meaning there is plenty of air flow to help keep the pets cool. All pets have constant access to fresh water which is checked at least 3 times throughout the day. Our staff are trained to monitor pets for signs of heat exhaustion with particular attention given to flat-faced dogs, elderly and over-weight pets along with pets with medical conditions.
When your dogs are being groomed, our 2 salon rooms are air-conditioned to help ensure all dogs stay comfortable, especially when being blow-dried after their bath.

What you can do at home
To help your pet be comfortable during warm weather:
- Ensure there is a constant supply of fresh, clean water.
- Offer a cool, shaded area for them to relax.
- Consider the use of cooling towels/mats.
- Walk dogs early morning or later in the evening.
Consider reducing the amount of exercise your dog has to avoid over-heating.

Toys for Dogs
In 2019 we read a disturbing article in a pet trade magazine that questioned how safe are the toys we give to dogs. The article described numerous cases of toys being chewed and digested which resulted in the dog ending up on the operating table. With this in mind we felt it our responsibility to carry out a risk assessment which started with looking at the toys for sale in our shop, these all carried a warning, a typical example being:
‘It is the responsibility of the owner to decide if this toy is suitable for their dog as all dogs are different in how they play with toys, no toy is suitable for every dog. The toy is strong but not indestructible. Dogs should always be supervised at all times when playing with toys’.
The risk assessment concluded that to avoid any risk we should refuse all toys. The health and safety of your pet whilst in our care is paramount but their wellbeing is also important. With this is mind we updated our policy to only accept hard, solid toys such as: Kong Classic, Nylabone and ‘Antler’ chews.
These should be the correct size for your pet and be undamaged.
Please note, we can still accept toys for cats. Reception staff will check the suitability of all toys at check-in. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
