Welcome and Congratulations!

Welcome and Congratulations!

We have been very busy here at Newgate over the past few months and as many of you jetted off on holiday, we welcomed your lovely pets and had a fun filled Summer of woofs, meows, squeaks and clucks.

While September heralds the return of our much appreciated part-time members of staff to their respective schools, colleges and Universities, it was also a chance to welcome three new full time apprentices, Lucy ‘T’, Olivia and Sasha.

When asked why they had decided to work with animals and why they had chosen to work at Newgate, the girls said;

Olivia: I just love animals, at home I have a border terrier named Bertie as well as two cats, Spot and Sweep, and love looking after them and taking Bertie for a walk so I just knew I had to work with animals. I started working at Newgate in September and have really loved working for the company so far. I have found the internal training really interesting as I get to look after a variety of animals, not just cats and dogs, my favourite animal is a rabbit, which is great as NK&C also look after small animals. Through the training I have been taught how to keep the kennels, chalets and hutches clean, and how to feed and exercise the animals.

Sasha: I have always had a passion for animals so knew this was the job for me. I started working at Newgate Kennels in September, and I love it, it’s amazing knowing that these precious family pets that need looking after while their owners are away are trusted to our care and I get to play a part in looking after them.

Lucy ‘T’: I have grown up with animals and from a very young age I knew that working in the animal care industry would be for me. After looking around for a kennels that offers apprenticeships, I found that Newgate Kennels offered a good training programme. I love working here and playing a part in each animals experience here.

While the three girls begin their course at Lite Ltd, we offer a massive congratulations to Jennifer who completed her NVQ Level 2 Animal Care course recently. Jennifer started working at Newgate kennels in September last year and has become a valued member of staff.

Here at Newgate Kennels we strive to provide highly trained and qualified members of staff. The NVQ Animal Care qualification requires the member of staff to attend college on day release at Lite Ltd in Stockport. This course nicely complements the in house training we provide in order to tailor the care we give to every pet that stays with us.

In fact we are so committed to providing highly trained members of staff that after rigorous assessments every three years we continue to receive the prestigious ‘Investors in People’ award. Over the years we have also won several training awards including the regional and then the national winner of the National Training Award for small businesses. That same year we were also entered onto the list of 100 best apprenticeship employer’s in the country. Top Dog!
